Stability and Mobility in Focus.

Knee Joint

The knee is prone to injuries, osteoarthritis, and overuse. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, and restricted mobility. Physiotherapy often provides relief, but in cases of severe damage, surgery may be necessary.

The Importance of the Knee Joint

The knee is one of the most heavily loaded joints in the human body. It consists of three parts: the inner and outer compartments between the femur and tibia, protected by the menisci (cartilage discs), as well as the patellofemoral joint. Stability is ensured by the collateral ligaments and the cruciate ligaments.

Common Causes of Knee Pain

  • Sports Injuries: Especially common in football players and skiers, with cruciate ligament tears being frequent. The anterior cruciate ligament injury accounts for around 50% of all ligament injuries.

  • Osteoarthritis: Joint wear and tear can cause pain during activity, later also at rest. Reduced mobility often leads to weight gain, which can further aggravate the condition.

Treatment Options
Our doctors at our Joint Centre provide comprehensive diagnostics and personalised advice on suitable therapies:

  • Conservative Treatments: Physiotherapy, pain management, and targeted injections for pain relief.

  • Surgical Procedures: Arthroscopic treatments and, in advanced osteoarthritis, implantation of a knee endoprosthesis.
